• COMPANY DESCRIPTION

Collier Construction is a residential and light commercial construction company serving the greater Chattanooga area. From kitchen remodels and additions to new custom homes and tenant build-outs, our work stretches from Dunlap to Cleveland and includes many projects on Signal Mountain and North Chattanooga as well as numerous new homes and commercial build-outs on the Southside, such as the Jefferson Heights Park Pavilion, green|spaces, iGNiS Glass, Bluegrass Grill and three LEED platinum homes on Madison Street.

• HISTORY & BACKGROUND

Ethan Collier started Collier Construction in 2002. By 2004, Collier launched into new home construction, and by 2005, we began using green building practices to improve the quality of our work. Our eco-smart approach made headlines in 2007 when we recycled two homes being demolished in North Chattanooga. Collier has since been recognized for spearheading green construction in Chattanooga and pioneering a Whole Systems Approach to construction—for which Collier was named a finalist for the Kruesi Award for Innovation in April, 2009.

• MISSION & PHILOSOPHY

We believe that the economic health and the well being of homeowners, the community and the environment are essential to the quality of every project.

And we believe that by building green we build homes that outlast conventional houses. While the average life expectancy of a conventional house is 50 years, Collier's goal is to build 100-year homes. We build these successful homes by using advanced framing techniques, applying building science and adhering to LEED and EarthCraft standards.

Building a Better Way

Building a better way means clearing the path for change in the construction industry. We promote better methods, educate others about innovation, and offer ourselves as a resource on green construction.

• DEFINING GREEN CONSTRUCTION

Collier has practiced green construction methods since 2004, and we continue to expand upon our sustainable building practices to better accomodate the needs of homeowners. For every home Collier builds, we use advanced framing techniques in order to reduce lumber, increase insulation and strengthen the home’s structural integrity. Advanced framing not only helps eliminate unnecessary lumber and construction waste, it also doubles the thermal capacity of a home’s walls—significantly reducing its environmental footprint.

• PIONEERING A WHOLE SYSTEMS APPROACH

Our Whole Systems Approach means we apply sustainable building practices, building science and green products to the home’s interconnected systems to achieve energy efficiency and a minimal environmental impact. That is, we combine building practices such as sustainable resource management, advanced framing, the insulated attic and crawl space, the sealed air barrier, and the rain screen siding system.

The benefits of a Whole Systems Approach include a minimal environmental footprint, improved home longevity and durability, better interior air quality, reduced energy consumption and little to no maintenance and repair costs over the long term.

• USING BETTER, SMARTER ESTIMATING PRACTICES

Collier has taken a different approach to estimating – a better, smarter and more efficient process that ensures accuracy and efficiency. We employ a full-time estimator whose sole responsibility is delivering precise estimates. Jason Lentz, vice president of sales, works closely with architects, subcontractors and vendors to have products and services accurately priced. This allows us to offer “not-to-exceed” contracts, which give you peace of mind – knowing that there will be no hidden costs or short cuts on your project. In fact, we are committed to always operating ON TIME and ON BUDGET.

• COMBINING PHILANTHROPY & CONSTRUCTION

Our commitment to serving communities means that we have a sustained investment in many local organizations, including Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga, The Creative Discovery Museum, Chattanooga Downtown Partnership, and CANstruction. We annually donate our resources to communities and schools, and we are always exploring more ways for giving back—whether we're developing education programs or supporting local events.

• OUR GUIDE TO GREEN CONSTRUCTION

We believe it is in everyone’s best interest that green construction becomes the norm. Our goal is to promote sustainable building practices and help educate others about green construction. So we have developed a guide to sustainable building practices, and we've called it (re)source. The (re)source packet highlights 5 sustainable building practices—from sustainable resource management to the rain screen siding system.

• THE WORD ON THE STREET

We know that a home project – no matter how small – is a really big deal. And you want a reputable contractor with a history of excellence because building a home, adding on or renovating should be an exciting opportunity to create real long term value. That is why we encourage you to do the research, learn everything you can about your contractor and make an informed decision based on reliable information. It’s worth the time.

Chad Wamack, homeowner (home addition in North Chattanooga)

“It’s hard to believe but we have been in our house a full year since the remodel! In a sense it seems so long ago, like the house has always been this way. The best compliment we consistently receive is that ‘the addition looks like it was always there.’

“I wanted to let you know Lisa and I appreciate the quality work that Collier Construction performed on our home. We selected Collier based on many factors but ultimately given the complexity of the project, we felt Collier was a contractor that we could work with through the ups and downs of a long project. The Collier employees, from top to bottom, proved that we made the right decision.”

Mayor Littlefield

“As mayor, it is important to me to make sure Chattanooga is on the forefront of innovative environmental practices, initiatives, and programs. Collier Construction Company is helping to not only construct better homes, but create a stronger, greener tomorrow for both our city and its residents.”

Dr. Stephen Monroe, homeowner (new 5,100 sq. ft. Signal Mtn. home)

“Collier construction's focus on building sustainability and energy efficiency was integral to our selection of a contractor. Having gone through the process and now lived in the home constructed for us this effort and focus is manifest in our low utility bills and the lack of maintenance required for our custom home.”

Robin Cayce, Assistant Principal; Normal Park Upper School

“As I start the new school year, I'd like to offer my sincerest appreciation for the beautiful renovation of my office. I feel very privileged to be starting my administrative career in such a gorgeous work space. Your commitment to the Normal Park project was astounding!”

Chattanooga Times Free Press

“Collier, who became Chattanooga’s first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-accredited residential builder in October, has helped lead the charge for better buildings with a range of downtown projects, including the construction of Tennessee’s first LEED-certified Habitat for Humanity House located on the corner of Market and Main streets.”
